Target pest: Tetranychus urticae (Acari: Tetranychidae), two-spotted spider mite

Agent introduced: Metaseiulus occidentalis (Acarina: Phytoseiidae) = Galendromus occidentalis, Typhlodromus occidentalis

Import source: Australia (original stock from North America)

Import notes: Imported as Typhlodromus occidentalis, correct name is now Galendromus occidentalis

Release details: Present in New Zealand prior to an insecticide resistant strain being introduced in 1976. Resistant strain was released in Nelson, Hastings, Waimate, Central Otago and Lincoln.

Establishment: Resistant strain established in Central Otago, Canterbury and Nelson (Hope)

Impacts on target: Limited success, Largely displaced by Phytoseiulus persimilis
