Target pest: Pieris rapae (Lepidoptera: Pieridae), cabbage white butterfly

Agent introduced: Apanteles glomeratus (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) = Cotesia glomerata (L. 1758)

Release details: In 1931-34 250,000 adults liberated in North Island. In 1938-39 2,317 adults were released at Nelson. Releases were made at an unspecified site during 1943-44, in Hawkes's Bay in 1944-45, Palmerston North (700 hundred adults) in 1960. There were possibly others. Released in 1954-55 on Chatham Island.

Establishment: Recovered in Nelson in 1938-39 and well established by 1943-44. Recorded in Canterbury in 1946-47. Recovered from southern North Island in 1959 and in Auckland in 1973.

Impacts on target: Apanteles glomeratus, Pteromalus puparum, a granulosis virus and predation in combination have a major impact on P. rapae
