Permanence:Work to build the Brisbane Botanic Gardens at the foot of Mount Coot-tha began in 1970 and the gardens were officially opened in 1976. The long term future of the New Zealand collection is somewhat in doubt, as an expansion of the Herbarium programme will mean that some the land occupied by the few NZ plants will be taken for building.
Description:The gardens cover 52 hectares. Plant collections at the Brisbane Botanic Gardens include a series of distinctly different gardens arranged in themes and geographical displays.
