A 2007 telephone survey of identification services used by New Zealand growers showed that many people were interested in computer-based diagnostic systems for identifying pests and diseases. If computer-based diagnostic systems can be made practical, it would be useful to include the organisms from the pictorial guides. Because of this connection the project will investigate the practicality of computer-based identification tools for non-experts.
