Target pest: Panonychus ulmi (Acari: Tetranychidae), European red mite

Agent introduced: Typhlodromus occidentalis (Acarina: Phytoseiidae) = Metaseilus occidentalis, Galendromus occidentalis

Import source: Australia (Australian importations were from North America)

Import notes: Imported as T. occidentalis, the correct name is now Galendromus occidentalis.

Released: 1976

Release details: Present in New Zealand prior to an insecticide resistant starin being introduced in 1976. The resistant strain was released in Nelson, Hastings, Waimate, Central Otago and Lincoln.

Establishment: Resistant strain established in Central Otago, Canterbury and Nelson (Hope)

Impacts on target: Limited success, Largely displaced by Phytoseiulus persimilis
